Goole’s 3rd team had their seventh run out of the season on Saturday at the RFU organised spring social. Goole took a strong 23-man squad. I am told this is the first time in 19 years the club has put out three teams on the same day. The day started as it ended with all in good spirits on a bus trip to Hosts Malton. The format for the day was four teams playing four 20 minute games. Goole started well against Beverley dominating the first 10 minutes with two tries from Tom Mellard and one from Edward Cranswick, tries converted by Joe Redshaw. Beverley came back too late with two late tries.
Goole 19 Beverley 12.
The second game against Scarborough came again at a fast pace with Goole taking control with an early try from Mellard after 5 minutes. Goole’s forwards controlled the game allow the backs to create the space for Oscar Sugden to cross the line for Goole’s second. Scarborough managed a try near the end.
Goole 12 Scarborough 5.
On a hot day other teams started to tire where Goole just got started, beating the hosts Malton with tries from Sugden, Joe Redshaw and Charlie Walton.
Goole 17 Malton 0.
Before the final game Beverley borrowed 5 of our backs for their game against Malton, with Harry Patrick scoring Beverley’s try of the day!
Hullensians were the last team We played and probably the toughest, the lads dug deep but the score ended with a try a piece, James Taylor scored Goole’s.
Goole 5 Hullensians 7.
A great performance from all Goole players, signs of good things ahead.
Goole thirds are playing again this Thursday away to Hullesians.
