Recent bad weather meant the venue for the local clash had to be moved to Selby. With both the first and seconds out Goole 3rds still managed to take a squad of 20 to what would prove to be one of their toughest games of the season. Goole took an early lead with Ollie Marshall, playing on the wing using his pace to run through their defence to score leaving Joe Redshaw to convert the try. Selby rose to the challenge and pushed hard and crossed the line only to be turned away twice with two tries held up by two of Goole’s old hands Stu Crawford and Huwie Davies. The rest of the half was hard fought in the forwards with Goole’s defence working hard to maintain Goole’s lead at half time.
The second half saw a few changes with some of the Youth coming on keep up the games fast pace. Brad Johnson stepped up to Hooker in only his second senior game and rose the challenge. Selby pushed and eventually crossed Goole’s try line and kicked the conversion. Goole fought back into it and kept the ball in Selby’s half paying off with Backrower Luke Darley crashing through from the 22 to score his first senior try. Joe Redshaw again converted. Harry Todhunter came on mid half to bolster up the second row in his club debut. Selby pushed hard in the last quarter but Goole worked hard to push them back with fantastic support play.
