A late fixture gave Goole's thirds their third outing of the season, this time in a friendly against Castleford's seconds. Goole with bare numbers faced a larger Castleford squad, not deterred by this the team spirit was high. Castleford dominated the opening part of the game with an early unconverted try. Goole had no answer to the Castlefords kicking game leaving the Goole defence open with two more tries, both converted following. Goole changed tactics and used their strength in the pack to gain ground leaving their opponents no reply resulting in Digger Thornhill crashing over the line. The next play from the restart saw Goole on the attack again with the pack leading the way leading in a penalty try been awarded a metre from the line.
HT. 26-12
Goole conceded an early try in the second half , which only gave Goole more resolve with stalwart Neil Cawood running off the back of a maul to crash over the line. Goole seemed to dominate the second half but failed to stop their opponents scoring once again. Goole kept their heads up and kept the control of the ball in the last minutes pushing their way into Castleford's 5 metre leaving Thornhill to gain his second try of the day. Good to see the older and young/new lads working together, definitely a sign of good things to come.
