Great Wakering Rovers are back on the road this Saturday as they make the 60 mile trip to playoff contenders Little Oakley.
After a week long break, Rovers come into the game with a mix run of results by picking up five points in five league games and two wins in two cup games in the Essex Senior Cup and the Errington Challenge Cup.
Little Oakley are no strangers to the Rovers as they faced off four times last season, including two cup finals where Rovers came out on top in all four encounters. However, despite finishing seventh last season, they are looking to go one better this season as they have strengthened and currently sit fifth inside the playoff spots.
Brief History of Little Oakley:
Despite evidence of a football club in Little Oakley prior to World War I, the club were founded in 1947 as Little Oakley War Memorial. In 1974, the club changed their name to the current guise of Little Oakley. In the 1987–88 season, the club were initially accepted into the Eastern Counties League Division One for the following season, before failing ground grading.
The club was promoted as champions of the Essex & Suffolk Border League in 2017, joining the Eastern Counties League. It was the club's fifth Premier Division title.
In 2021 the club were promoted to the Essex Senior League based on their results in the abandoned 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons.
Since then, Little Oakley have improved dramatically in such a short space of time every season and last season they reached two cup finals in last years campaign.
