Wymondham 2nd XV – 10
Great Yarmouth – Broadland 1st XV travelled to Wymondham 2nd XV last weekend, having struggled with recent results the Great Yarmouth side were looking for a good win to get the league season back on track.
Wymondham did apply some early pressure, but some solid tackling from Liam Haylett, Tristan Barber and Shaun Howley kept the home side outside of the 22 meter line. Great Yarmouth began to piece together a decent attack, and quick ball saw James Murphy break outside, before handing off the full back to score. Pressure continued and Lee Raven was unlucky to have a try disallowed, however with pressure maintained Nathan Bensley got the ball in close for Matt Beckett to pick and drive over (converted Murray)
Wymondham did test the visitors, but the Great Yarmouth defence held firm, quick hands from Ben Collings, gave James Murphy all the space he needed to break and score his second. This left the visitors with a comfortable 17-0 lead at half time.
Dan Pennell joined the pack at the half and Great Yarmouth kept up the momentum, George Wilson picked up from a scrum, Stuart Murray put the ball wide and James Murphy was over for a hat-trick.
Great Yarmouth brought on veteran forward Asa Morrison, Broadland were again up in attack, scrum Half Alec Burling chipped through, but was clearly held back by a Wymondam player, the referee did not hesitate in awarding a penalty try.
Simon Ruddick came on at scrum half and began to work the forwards into the game with some good runs from Kieron Wilkes and Ant Payne, however a turnover led to a break and Wymondham scored in the corner. A resurgent Wymondham, really began moving the ball about the park, but a long deep pass, was picked off by Ross Etherington, who went 60 meters to score (converted Murray)
In the last few minutes Wymondham managed to score a second, but the game was well won by this point and secured a valuable away victory.
