2nd XV in top of table battle

Great Yarmouth - Broadland 2nd XV - 5
Fakenham 2nd XV – 19
Great Yarmouth-Broadland 2nd XV host Fakenham 2nd XV in a top of the table clash weekend, but the script did not go to plan for the Great Yarmouth side. The kick off saw the game paid at high pace with both teams launching attacks from midfield. Great Yarmouth – Broadland had a considerably bigger pack and this was used to go effect moving the ball around the edges and provided a solid attacking platform in scrums. An early injury to a Fakenham prop saw the end of competitive scrums, as Fakenham were unable to provide a replacement prop.
Great Yarmouth were making good in roads a Martyn Greenwood had a storming run, followed by so good work from Captain Liam Lovick to move the home side in close to Fakenhams line. Good field position was squandered and Fakenham kicked clear. Fakeham moved the ball well and a couple of pick and drives yielded a score leaving the Great Yarmouth side in the unusual territory of trailing in the first half. Scrum Half Alec Burling was working hard and Jay Pollard instigated some good attacks, but the clean break was elusive. Fakenham again got close and it was great defensive work from Stuart Brown and Pat Finney which prevented a break, Adam Vincent managed to steal a ball which thwarted the attack. The game was still being played at break neck speed Sami Jordan had a fantastic break but the final pass did not find it’s man.
The 2nd Half began with the home side trailing 5-0. An early attacking lineout saw a great take from Chris Hewitt, and Matt Beckett and Sean Tubby made good ground, but a turnover saw Fakenham break, two passes and they broke to score. Great Yarmouth – Broadland composed themselves and began to work steadly down the pitch, Jamie Murrya and James Murphy both had good runs, and Kriron Wilks and Asa Morrison were making inroads off the back row. Great Yarmouth added some fresh legs with Veterans Neil Blizzrd and Pete Calanon joining the back and Tommy Simmonds making a welcome return after a break in playing coming on a centre. Simmonds made an immediate impact as he put in a penominal takle on a Fakenham lock in the midfield. But the the home side were stretch attcks and as all to offen happen a quick turnover left them exposed and Fakeham scored. With time running short Broadland launched an attack, and Joel Allard moverd the ball into Fakenhams five meter line, Forwards Beckett, Wilkes, Morrison and then Hewitt all had close ranges goes at the line. Burling reset the ruck and Jordan got close to a score. The forwards kept hammering at the goal line and after serval more attempts, Burling choose his moment well as he switch play, spun the ball wide to the midfield, Chris Calnon had little trouble in darting over the line to score a late consolation try.
