Further improvements made in local derby.

Elland were today’s visitors in a local grudge match given a little more spice with the return of Allrounders old boy, George. In a similar scenario to last week, the start of the season had seen Elland comfortably beat Greetland. There was nothing comfortable for Elland this time round, though, as this improving Greetland side continued to build on the momentum following some outstanding recent performances.

Greetland started well, showing defiance in defence and preventing Elland’s large pack from breaking through. In attack, Greetland looked sharp – Noah was the first to break through and race to the corner to put the first points on the board. There were some excellent skills on show from both sides. Strong running and offloads allowed Elland to keep up with Greetland and be rewarded for their hard work. As ever, Greetland dug in and hit back. Lil’s familiar dancing feet coupled with strong running from Wilf gained some valuable yards and left Joe with the simple task of diving over to add another to his tally.

Lewis, who seems to get better every week, was also putting in some hard work and was unlucky to come off due to injury following a blistering charge through the middle. To compensate, Maddie bowled over a beleaguered Elland defence to score a trademark try. Soon after, she repeated her efforts and went over following strong running from Ellis, Sam and Will.

Defence was still a priority though. Elland are a big side but no one was taking a back seat. Jacob was getting stuck in bring down their biggest players, Jack and Issy were leading by example to ensure that the score was level at half time.

The half time break seemed to interrupt Greetland’s momentum. Elland came flying out and scored some quick-fire tries to dampen spirits. Karl had other ideas though, showing off his mature rugby brain to step round the defence and set up another try for Joe.
In the end, Elland proved just too strong for Greetland, but yet again Greetlang could leave the pitch with their heads held high following another improved performance.
