Queensbury too strong for a determined Greetland side.

Our ever improving under 9s took on a large, physical and well drilled Queensbury side in a brutal encounter this morning which saw a first ever run out for our new number 16, Jack Hook.

A fast start from Queensbury was well met by some strong tackling from a well organised Greetland. The pressure told after five minutes though as Queensbury went through following some strong, determined running. Undeterred, Greetland roared back following a fine move. Some quick running on to the ball saw Alfie Roberts bully his way over the whitewash.

More great defending from Maddie Hutchinson, Will Betts and Noah Simeunovich allowed Greetland to stay in touch with the opposition and provided a platform for our number 7, Lillian Seal, to show her elusive attacking skills as she proved difficult to stop despite taking some fierce blows to the head. Brushing herself off and rolling her sleeves up, she proved pivotal in Greetland’s next scoring opportunity as Maddie Hutchinson forced herself across the line, taking four men with her!

The narrow pitch prevented Greetland from displaying their natural passing game. Good ball handling skills following a rebounded grubber kick nearly saw Joe Robinson go over for a try. Dancing feet from Karl Bratley lead to another try for number 10 Maddie Hutchinson but soon Greetland were on the defensive again. This time Joseph Hirst put in some big hits and Jack Hook grew in to the game, making some important stops.

Despite the efforts of Jacob Smith and Louis Taylor, Queensbury proved too strong in the second half. During a frenetic ending, Greetland didn’t quite have enough to power over again. They left the field exhausted and bruised after one of their best performances of the season so far.
