Ahead of kick-off, both teams' players, staff, officials and fans observed a minute’s silence in memory of Wrexham legend Joey Jones, who passed away on 22nd July 2025.

It was Iwan Roberts who had the first chance of the game, but his fifth-minute effort went wide.

Then, just a minute later, Guilsfield find the opener from a long throw-in into the box for Rhys Tilsley to loop it into the net over Josh Roberts.

In the 11th minute, Haci Ozlu fired the ball into the box, but Guilsfield goalkeeper Luke Evans claimed it well.

Jake Roberts was next to try his luck in the 25th minute, but his long-ranged strike went over the crossbar.

The Guils then found their second goal of the game, with Sam Flory getting on the end of the ball from a corner and slamming it into the back of the net from close-range in 27th minute.

In the 38th minute, Iwan Roberts went on a good run, dribbling past the Guilsfield defence, but his eventual shot was saved by Guils' Evans

Gresford Athletic did manage to pull one back, though, and in the 41st minute, Iwan Roberts forced the ball into the box for Jake Roberts to tap it in to bag his second goal in two competitive games for the club.

However, just minutes later, Guilsfield nicked a third goal, as Iwan Matthews drills the ball into the back of the net following a free-kick in the second minute of added time.

HALF-TIME: Gresford Athletic 1-3 Guilsfield

The second half saw The Colliers determined to find a way back into the game, as Haci Ozlu's 56th-minute header flew JUST over the crossbar.

The Gresford Athletic players, staff and fans all protested for a penalty in the 60th minute, but referee Thomas Owen instead awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area and the Guilsfield wall blocked Jake Robert’s strike well.

Charlie Mann shot from range in the 69th minute, but again the ball went over the bar.

In the 70th minute, Guilsfield were almost through for a fourth goal until Elliott Orton put in a brilliant tackle to deny the dangerous attack.

Guilsfield were still keen on goal number four, though, and Sam Flory's effort rattled the woodwork in the 76th minute.

In the 77th minute, following a handball in the box, Gresford Athletic were awarded a penalty. However, Haci Ozlu's shot from the spot dinked both goalposts and was unable to cross the goalline.

Gresford Athletic continued to try to find another goal and Charlie Mann put a great ball into the box in the 81st minute, but James Smith's header was inches over the net.

In the first minute of added time, Jake Roberts almost grabbed his second goal of the game, but his header went just wide and the final whistle blew with Gresford Athletic empty-handed.
