It was a welcome return to winning ways for Gresford Athletic when they faced Mold Alexandra at home on matchday six of the 2025/26 JD Cymru North on Friday night.

The first half was a fairly even affair, but it was Mold Alexandra who had the first real opportunity, with their 16th-minute effort towards an open-net being blocked at the last moment.

Charlie Mann put in a good ball in the box in the 27th minute, but The Alex's Joe Smith was there to catch it.

Mold Alexandra had a flurry of chances in the 31st minute, all which were blocked, saved by Lewis Dutton or denied by the woodwork and the score remained level.

It was again great work by Mann in the 35th minute, crossing the ball towards Jake Roberts, but the latter was just inches away from sliding the ball into the back of the net.

Dan Collins looked to try to force a breakthrough, with his 37th and 39th minute strikes both smashing against the crossbar.

In the 43rd minute, Haci Ozlu put in another good cross, but again Roberts was unable to find the net and his header went wide of the post.

Then, just before half-time, in the 44th minute, Lewis Dutton was called upon to make a good save to deny an effort from a quick Mold Alexandra counter-attack.

Mikey Davies tried to create the first chance of the second half, putting in yet another great Gresford Athletic cross, but the eventual shot is blocked by Mold Alexandra goalkeeper Joe Smith.

Lewis Dutton pulled off an excellent fingertip save in the 60th minute to stop a decent effort from The Alex.

In the 71st minute, Haci Ozlu tried his luck from another ball into the box, but Joe Smith in the Mold Alexandra goal was there again to claim the effort.

Ozlu almost found the opener for The Colliers in the 77th minute, but his effort was met with an equally good save by Smith.

Then, in the 81st minute, there was a breakthrough, as Dan Collins played a lovely ball through to Jake Roberts, who made sure to make it count and slotted it home to give Gresford Athletic a late lead.

Mold Alexandra almost found the equalising goal in the 90th minute, but their effort went wide of the goal and Gresford Athletic breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Roberts almost found his second goal of the game late on in the 92nd minute, but his strike went past the post.

The final whistle then blew on what was a hard-fought, well-earned victory at home for Gresford Athletic to add another three points to the board.
