First fixture of the season for Grimsby Minis and our Under 9s did not dissappoint.

Thanks to staggered starting times from Lincoln RFC, players and parents got to watch siblings and offspring in other age groups play their opening fixtures.

The Under 9s decided, being Sunday morning, they would hit the snooze button and allowed Lincoln to run in a try a minute before joining in the first game which Lincoln dominated in both halves resulting in a 75-40 loss.

After a short break the battle lines were drawn again and this time Grimsby were ready and it was their blue shirts that had control of the game, leading 10-40 at half-time. In the second half both teams continued to battle away and Lincoln began to claw their way back into the game but due to unwavering defence from Grimsby and handful more tries the game ended in a win for the Blues 50-55.

After the games our parents announced a new tradition, from now on this team will have a "Parents' Player of The Day" every fixture as voted for by them. Today, Sam Holt(parent) presented Lewis with the award. In his first match day in a Grimsby shirt Lewis showed what it took to win games, hard up front tackles and strong powerful running.

The entire team performed fantastically and delighted all especially their coaches.

A huge thank you to Tim at Lincoln RFC for ensuring the fixtures went ahead as they settle into their new establishment on Lodge Lane. We look forward to meeting again during the season.
