The game was a close affair between two evenly matched teams, played in hot sunny conditions. Bourne opened the scoring on ten minutes with a touchdown in the corner. The Blues fought back forcing Bourne to concede a penalty. From the penalty centre Bradley Treacher kicked the ball deep into the Bourne 22. From the resulting line out the ball was fed out to centre Lewis Rothenburg who broke loose to score under the posts. Fly half Lewis Dyson added the conversion to put Grimsby in front. From then on, the Blues just had the edge. Good work from flanker Sam Fleming set up scrum half Ryan Gant to score in the corner giving Grimsby a 12-5 half time score. In the second half Bourne continued to press Grimsby, but it was the Blues that went closest to scoring when prop Luke Munro went over, but the ball was held up. With the heat affecting the players the score remained at 12-5 to Grimsby.
