The match was originally supposed to be a NLD league match but with West Bridgford unable to field a fully registered side the match was played as a friendly.

The game was a formality for Grimsby as they dominated from the start. Centre Lewis Rothenburg opened the scoring on ten minutes following some good rucking and pick up and drive moves from props Lloyd Roberts and Luke Munro. Fellow centre Bradley Treacher added the conversion. Minutes later the Blues scored again after the ball was kicked deep into their opponents 22. The resulting line out was over turned by Grimsby and from the ensuing maul, No.8 Ash Rendall-Tyrrell peeled off to score in the corner. Rothenburg added the conversion. West Bridgford struggled to contain Grimsby’s fast runners and a breakthrough run by flankers and Huw Cowper and Sam Fleming resulted in a try for fly half Lewis Dyson and a Treacher conversion. West Bridgford started to resort to underhand tactics to try and stop Grimsby which resulted in a penalty try for Grimsby following a late high tackle. The ref had clearly had enough. This was duly converted by Rothenburg to give the Blues a 28-0 half time lead. In the second half Grimsby found themselves down to 14 men after Rendall-Tyrrell was unfortunate to be dismissed. He had the misfortune to stand on one of Bridgford's prone players, resulting in the ref reaching for red. This didn’t seem to affect Grimsby who still continued to dominate and ran in two further breakaway tries from Rothenburg to win the match 40-0.
