. Indiscipline, poor decision making and handling errors saw them draw 12-12 against Bourne U17s. Due to a shortage of front row players in the Bourne team the scrums were uncontested handing the advantage to Bourne. This meant the strong Grimsby pack had lost their edge and were unable to assert their power which was a big part of the Blues game plan. At the breakdown Bourne competed well and were a constant threat, shocking the Blues with an early try following a drive inside Grimsby’s 22.
Grimsby responded well following a neat side step and run from fly half Lewis Dyson who went to ground. Centre Lewis Rothenburg was quick to respond and snatched the ball and dived over the try line to level the score. Dyson put Grimsby in front with the conversion. Grimsby’s forwards made good ground with their rucking and driving which resulted in a try for hooker Conor Simcock who picked the ball up from the base of a ruck and powered his way through to score. An intercepted pass resulted in Bourne levelling the score. Bourne began to pressure Grimsby and nearly scored again when their fly half sprinted down the wing only to be stopped from scoring a certain try by winger Evan Picking with a last gasp crunching tackle forcing him in to touch, to keep the score level at half time. In the second half Grimsby continued to attack, but every time they got close to the Bourne try line errors and infringements stopped them in their tracks and the score remained 12-12. The result was a little disappointing but at least the Blues remain unbeaten and top of the NLD plate group. Next Sunday Grimsby are away to second place Bakewell.
