Following a narrow home defeat by Lincoln at the start of the season Grimsby U19 Colts were eager to get revenge when they travelled to Lincoln for the reverse fixture.

The Blues meant business and totally dominated the match from the start. The powerful Grimsby pack were no match for Lincoln and with the backs passing the ball around with ease Lincoln often struggled to contain Grimsby. For the first 15 minutes Grimsby pegged Lincoln in their own half. A passing move featuring all of the back line took Grimsby close to scoring with ball being fed out by fly half Lewis Dyson to winger Evan Picking but he was tackled a few yards from the line and bundled into touch. From the resulting Lincoln line out the ball was stolen and a driving maul by the Grimsby forwards took the ball over the line but the ball was judged to be held up and taken back for a five metre scrum. From the scrum No.8 Ash Rendall-Tyrrell picked up the ball and powered through to open the scoring. Another good move involving centres Jordan Ives & Lewis Rothenburg took Grimsby close to scoring again minutes later but the ball was knocked on. From the Lincoln scrum Grimsby stole the ball against the head and Rendall-Tyrrell scored his second try with another No.8 pick up. This gave Grimsby a 10-0 half time lead.
In the second half Grimsby continued to dominate and both flanker Huw Cowper and Rendall-Tyrrell both went over the try line but with Lincoln frantically defending in numbers both attempts to score were deemed to be held up. A powerful run by flanker Sam Fleming resulted in a ruck 30 metres out and with scrum half Elliot Gant quick to respond the ball was fizzed out to Dyson who spotted a gap and sprinted through to score. Full back Brad Watson added the conversion. Dyson scored his second try following a good run by Rendall-Tyrrell again with the ball played out from a ruck. The ball was passed down the back line to Dyson who had looped round the back and received a pass from replacement centre Brad Treacher. A lapse of concentration by Grimsby allowed Lincoln to score a converted try with virtually their first foray into Grimsby’s 22. The Blues continued to press and Fleming made a break for the line evading tackles but as he went over to score a definite try he dropped the ball much to the amusement of his fellow team mates. With the ball being brought back for a 5 metre scrum the Grimsby pack again showed their strength again winning the ball against the head. Gant quickly passed the ball out to Rendall-Tyrrell peeling off the scrum to score his hat-trick. Lincoln tried in vain to score but were overpowered by some excellent Grimsby defending and the ball was taken up field again by a strong run by Rendall-Tyrrell. Grimsby were quick to clear out the ensuing ruck and Gant spun the ball out to the advancing Fleming who split the defence and made no mistake this time as he went over to score. Watson added the conversion to give Grimsby a fine 34-7 victory.
