Grimsby Town youth team look to get off to a good start in the Youth Alliance Cup group as they host Chesterfield at Cheapside on Saturday (11am).

Neil Woods’s side failed to make it back-to-back EFL North East Youth Alliance wins as they lost 2-0 to Burton Albion at St. George’s Park last weekend.

And the young Mariners will be looking to bounce back from that defeat with a win over Chesterfield in the cup.

Town put in a steady performance against the Brewers last Saturday and were unlucky to lose, as they went close with efforts from Evan Khouri, Luis Adlard, Owen Davey, and Joe Starbuck.

And they will be hoping to be slightly more deadly in front of goal and put their chances away against the Spireites this weekend.

Chesterfield finished 10th-place in the league last term, on 30 points – 16 behind champions Town.

But the Spireites are still currently winless in the 2019-20 season, after drawing 2-2 at Mansfield Town and losing 2-0 at home to Scunthorpe United in their two previous league games.

And they will be looking to get their first win of the season as they travel to Cheapside on Saturday.

After this weekend’s clash with the Spireites, Town return to league action as they welcome Scunthorpe United to Cheapside on Saturday, August 31 (11am).
