Two unbeaten half centuries provide the platform for Guildford's comfortable win.

After receiving a bye in Round 1, Guildford’s U15s hosted Cranleigh on a central strip on the main square at Woodbridge Road for the second round in the U15 ECB County Cup.

Cranleigh won the toss, and elected to field.

Guildford’s player availability for this weekend had given the age group manager tough selection decisions. By all accounts, Cranleigh’s side was under strength for this fixture.

Sebastian Dunn debuted for Guildford.

Highlights:
• Luke Smith – 52 retired not out (off 47 balls, 6 fours, 1 six)
• Morgan Barnes – 22 (off 20 balls, 3 fours)
• Milo Roe – 51 retired not out (off 36 balls, 1 four, 2 sixes)
• Aarav Malhotra – 14 not out (off 10 balls, 2 fours)
• A maiden half century for Luke Smith in Guildford’s colours – repeating the feat from when he toured with Trinityhouse School (South Africa) against Guildford back in 2019
• Sharp running between the wickets from Milo Roe, who also smashed a couple of big sixes
• Guildford closed on a huge score – 171 for 3, off 20 overs

• A tidy opening spell from a new opening bowling pairing – Seb Dunn and Cameron Sim
• Cranleigh’s openers were likely to be the main threat, but tight bowling made life difficult for the away side, and Seb Dunn took the first wicket, clean bowled
• The other wicket takers were Cameron Sim, Matthew Bisset, James Mundy and Luke Smith; with Aarav Malhotra taking 2 catches in the outfield, and Milo Roe also taking a comfortable catch
• On the day, Guildford’s most economical bowlers were Cameron Sim, James Mundy and Aarav Malhotra
• Cranleigh reached 87 for 5, off 20 overs

A comfortable 84 run victory for Guildford.

The man of the match was Luke Smith.

Next up for Guildford will be Chobham in the quarter final – date to be confirmed.
