Having received a request for a friendly at 7.33am on the day of the fixture, Guildford's U15s raised a keen side of 9 players to travel to our local hosts, Woking & Horsell.
Guildford lost the toss and were put in to bat.
With a couple of players running late, batting first was welcomed. Gian Smith and Kieran Finnegan got off to a decent start, both taking singles and finding the boundaries.
The tempo was good for the bulk of the innings with some free flowing shots resulting in boundaries for Gian Smith, and a few well struck sixes from Kieran Finnegan, Rohan Kumar and Kaivalya Kumaar.
Top scorers on the day were:
Gian Smith - 13 runs (off 19 balls, 2x fours, SR: 68)
Kieran Finnegan - 31 retired not out (off 17 balls, 5x fours, 1x six, SR: 182)
Rohan Kumar - 31 retired not out (off 27 balls, 3x fours, 1x six, SR: 115)
Kaivalya Kumaar - 30 retired not out (off 33 balls, 2x fours, 1x six, SR: 91)
Oliver Horne - 10 not out (off 12 balls, SR: 83)
Guildford reached 150 for 3 wickets, of 20 overs.
In reply, Woking & Horsell batted with more conviction than previous fixtures, and also had the benefit of Guildford's 9 player team.
However the bowling was tight at the start with economical opening spells from both Max Dyer and Max Reynolds.
Kieran Finnegan and Rohan Kumar were also keeping things tight in their respective overs.
Whilst both of Woking & Horsell's openers managed to retire on 30+ not out, their strike rate was behind the required rate; which starting creeping up to around 10 per over.
The initial breakthrough came when Kaivalya Kumaar clean bowled the home side's number 3 batsman, first ball.
However Woking's number 4 soon started hitting out for a quick fire 24 runs off just 12 balls, and Woking were back in the game.
The last 4 overs were all pretty tight, hence Guildford restricted the run rate.
Rohan Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with two clean bowled wickets to close with figures of 3-0-13-2.
Max Reynolds secured a deserved wicket, with Dylan Kirk taking the catch at short fine leg.
Then with the final ball of the match, Max Dyer bagged a caught and bowled.
Woking & Horsell reached 142 for 5 wickets, off their 20 overs.
A good game of cricket, played in the right spirit from both teams. Guildford edged it by 8 runs.
Man of the match: Rohan Kumar
