The U14s returned to the somewhat unreliable wicket of Peper Harow on Monday evening, to face a boisterous Ashtead side who had managed to squeeze in 11 matches in the 3 weeks since the return to cricket.
Match highlights:
Hugely variable bounced made it difficult for the batsmen after Guildford won yet another toss, and elected to bat.
Milo Roe - 29 runs (4x fours)
Adam Thomas - 30 runs retired not out (2x fours, 1x six, 28 balls)
Morgan Barnes - 17 not out (2x fours)
George Thompson - 12 runs (1x four, 1x six, 7 balls, strike rate: 171)
Guildford closed on 105 runs for 6 wickets, of 20 overs.
Tight bowling from the opening bowlers Cameron Sim and Lucas Kher (captain)
2 wickets for Lucas Kher
1 wicket apiece for Cameron Sim, Milo Roe, Adam Thomas, James Mundy and Alex Challinor
Catches for Morgan Barnes (wk), Milo Roe (x2), Adam Thomas, and Lucas Kher
A nail biting last over saw 4 dot balls bowled by the in-form Milo Roe, before a leg bye saw Ashtead scamper a single.
Ashtead managed 106 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Man of the match: Adam Thomas
A tight game, will always boil down to a number of fine margins. 23 wides from Guildford's bowlers proved costly in comparison to tighter bowling and just 6 wides from the opposition side. However numerous strong performances from both sides on a difficult wicket made it a close encounter.
Hopefully cricket will do the talking at the return away fixture next week, rather than some of what was witnessed in this so-called friendly.
