Guildford vs Ashtead

On a beautiful sunny day Guildford under 14's made their tier 1 debut with Tommy McMurray and Seb Seume making their Guildford debuts.
Captained by Tom Farley Guildford lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a fairly green track.
Guildford began slowly taking advantage of the odd bad ball but soon found themselves at 27-3 before Tommy McMurray came in at 5 and struck 35 (25 balls 4x4's and 2x6's) as Guildford began to score more freely and Seb Seume came in at 8 to smash 42 (25 balls 6x4's and 2x6's) at a crucial time ably supported by Toby Higgins with a solid 19 (35 balls 1x4) which was exactly what the team required. With techniques being examined Guildford will need to tighten up with the first 5 batsmen bowled and 8 bowled overall but Ashtead possessed some excellent bowlers especially Ford who took 2 wickets for 4 runs off 4.5 overs.
Seb Seume and Toby Higgins then led the attack excellently setting a great tone keeping runs tight backed up by energetic and lively fielders. Runs slowly began to come and Guildford were looking for a moment of brilliance to break the opening partnership and at 78 Alex Bhatt made the breakthrough aided by a superb one handed catch at point by Tommy McMurray. Alex Jourdan then entered the attack to great effect bowling his leg spinners, sensibly by Tom Farley from the pavillion end, taking 5 wickets in 3 overs to put the game firmly under Guildford's control. Tommy McMurray then finished off a great spell of bowling (4 overs 1 wicket for 20 runs) with a wicket caught by Abel George, Abel's 3rd catch of the game. Tom Farley then entered the attack taking 1 wicket for 8 runs in 2 overs before Alex Jourdan claimed the last wicket for the win to end the game with fantastc figures of 6 wickets for 24 off 4.4 overs. Special mention also to Toby Higgin and Seb Seume who both came back to bowl at the end only conceded 28 runs from their combined 11 overs.
A great start but tougher tests lie ahead.
