Conwy Borough 1 Guilsfield 2

Guilsfield's first match of the season looked a tricky one on paper, with an away trip to newly promoted Conwy Borough, under experienced manager Gareth Thomas. This proved to be the case as both sided had to contend with a hard surface and a strong wind which affected the pace and bounce of the ball throughout the match.
Guilsfield began the game with a youthful look to the defence with 18yr old Curtis Weetman and 17yr old James Parry both lining up alongside the experience of Robbie James and Callum Bromley.
Indeed, it was James who gave Guilsfield an early lead as his looping header from an Adam Jenkins free kick evaded the Conwy keeper to give the Guils the perfect start. The game was tight throughout the half and Guislfield looked to be going into the break with a handy lead. However, with the last kick of the first half McGonigle's half volley found the back of the net after we had failed to clear a throw-in. HT 1-1
The second half was again cagey, with Guilsfield threatening on the break with the hard-working Steve Blenkinsop featuring. The goal which sunk Conwy's hearts came in the 77th minute as another Bromley run down the right result in a lovely cross which Andy Ford met with a perfectly aimed header as he ghosted in betwen the centre backs.
Conwy were reduced top 10 men with the late dismissal of Marshall and this gave Guilsfield a little bot of breathing space to see out the remaining minutes. Final Score 1-2.
