While a bunch of Gully Cricketer’s made their maiden appearance in the league against Nettleham CC, another bunch endeavoured on a friendly match against Hykeham CC. We had the usual ever so enthusiastic GC’ers turning up in full strength. Dan, Dave, Ros and Jayson from Hykeham CC joined us to play 10 overs a pair game (8 pairs). Rest of the crew bowled/fielded for 80 overs. ManishK and not so lucky RahulG (injured during vigorous pre-match practice) helped us in umpiring. We had over own Dan’s friends Sarath and Bimal joining us from Newark. Thanks to Ron and others who helped in preparing the pitch and scoring. Thanks to those yummy cakes by Hykeham CC. Some highlights below.
1. Pranav- ManishK pair batted first. ManishK not out for 10 overs.
2. Dan took a fantastic catch in the very first over.
3. August-RahulG pair made 55. August not out for 10 overs.
4. Some fantastic skills demonstrated by Dan-Ros and Dave-Jayson pairs.
5. Some crucial wickets taken by Senthil, Bimal and Atul.
6. Sarath-Bimal pair made 77. Lost three balls which ended up over the fence.
7. RahulC-Chevvel pair had a good spell too with Rahul smashing 3x6 and couple of 4s from both.
8. Bimal took 4 wickets in a row.
9. We got so tired that the last pair (batting from 71 to 80th over) just walked across the pitch for runs. No kidding-August was limping back home.
10. Chevvel got 3 stumping done and 2 caught behind.
It was amazing that as a team we fielded for 80 overs; taking some catches; picking up some wickets and were making some decent runs while batting even after 50+ overs. A very good demonstration of GC's spirit “Fun and Fitness with friends”. Some series talent out there “GC outdoor selection committee”. It’s a tough job ahead for you gents.
We certainly have come a long way from the times (c. 2015) when less than a handful would turn up for indoor cricket to 20+ GC’ers playing in two different locations in a day with such a great sportsmanship.
Win or lose it’s a significant day in GC’s history and I am sure we all are proud to have been a part of it. “Onwards and upwards” from now on indeed. Way to go GC
