GC make their first mark of the 2022 season

Gujju Deal, Ploughman’s Sandwich ?, Carlos Braithwaite, Yoga, Meditation, Spicy ? Banana Chips for 99p and many more helps GC make their first mark of the 2022 season

04/05/22 - Team WhatsApp group is created well in advance of the game, indicating how serious the captains’ corner was about winning this game for GC. Followed by a period of peace and quite for 2 days - a total sannaata - almost like the rest of the team was saying ‘don’t worry, we’ve got this one skip?’ ( or oh no he’s at it again ?‍♂️? )

07/05/22 - With feeling of ‘Winter is coming’ - Restless Skip, tries another attempt to resurrect ( hoping for similar resurrection as of Jon Snow in GOT? ) the group by inviting interests from the group for writing the match report. Whilst everyone was falling over each other to write ✍️ the match group ?? - it was picked up by the some punctilious eyes that Skip had skipped writing the match report so far in the history of GC ?.
Skip realising the scrupulous nature of the situation but still determined to skipping ? made counter gujju deal to the group to see if anyone would take up the deal - if he scores 25% of teams runs or takes 2 catches then whoever is taking the deal will write it or else he’ll. With less than 3 minutes to go before the deadline and multiple negotiations the deal was struck with his gujju counterpart in the team at skip having to score at least 25.1% of team’s runs or take 3 catches at least to pass on his match report writing obligation.

08/05/22 - Match Day - After arriving at the ground and quick stroll to the centre to assess the pitch and much deliberations from captains’ corner night before, decision is made to bat first if GC wins the toss.
After loosing the toss and having been asked to bat first, Skip almost smirks on his way back from the centre while remembering the dialogue of Baazigar - kuchh har kar jitne wale ko baazigar kahte hai ??
GC opens the inning with prof making a first mark by opening his ploughman’s sandwich ? even before the GC openers have a chance to score a run. He was most chilled out with deputising the scoring duties to his most obedient student Tau? (Puneet). Tau has a passion for scoring especially at Revesby- he travelled 70 mile round trip last year to score at Revesby - a feat that has never been achieved by anyone in GC’s history ?
GC openers Narenbhai and Rakesh gives a very good start to GC against some very disciplined bowling by Revesby’s opening bowlers - Isaac Tyler and Jamie Lewis. Narenbhai even manages to do an advert for Fevicol where he Knicks one on the the wicket but bails don’t come off ! Before getting out for 15 with 2 boundaries. Rakesh and Tenny follows him more or less straight after and GC finds themselves in a tricky situation at 38/3.
What follows after reminds me of an iconic commentary by Ian Bishop at 2016 T20 World Cup - ‘Carlos Braithwaite - remember the name ‘ - almost as if Bishop was rooting for GC with ‘ Jiss Joy - remember the name ?’ - scores 79 off 60 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes. His partner is crime was Bobby who amazingly scored 75 off 86 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. There were major discussions in the pavilion (whilst munching away Spicy Banana Chips from a Sudbrooke shop for 99p) about what was the contributing factor/s for Bobby’s transformational form - with yoga, meditation, running, walking, cycling and everything else possible on this earth ?However, was correctly claimed that all those taxi trips to drop Pranav to various cricket grounds have finally come to some use ?. Together they put up a record breaking 4th wicket partnership off 139 runs ( @sriram ji, highest in GC for 4th wicket? ) before Jiss getting out.
This was then followed by some quick wickets of Varad and Skip. Adil joins Bobby immediately and is in the flow straightaway and quickly add 30 runs partnerships before following Bobby to the pavilion for a well deserved break. Tau and prof takes the reign of playing out last few overs and determined to play full 40 overs. Tau scored at highest strike rate of 175.0 with 1 four. Prof defended very well. GC finished the inning for 236/8 in 40 overs - our highest ever total in 1st inning ???

With such a humongous total posted, GC could smell the victory at tea break. Tau comes in and picks up the 1st wicket for GC almost straightaway. This was then followed by some exciting batting by Grant Richards ( 37 off 51 balls 1 four ) and James Pocklington ( 54 off 66 balls 5 fours ) from Revesby. At 20 overs drinks break the game looked evenly poised with 2 set batsmen at the crease. Decision was made to bring some spin attack on as Revesby batsmen were playing pacers relatively well. Bobby and Tenny gets the both set batsmen out and game starts to fall our way. However, given the history GC loosing the close games in last season, there were some panics on the ground which were then controlled through some changes to fielding positions and bowling at certain line and length. GC achieved this objective very well.
Finally, through some determined team work and supporting each other, GC recorded its first win in the season for Sunday league with 40 runs victory!!!!!
