Alun Roberts (CB)

Well the football season is finally upon us; hopefully all the lads are excited and raring to go. Been given the captaincy armband this season, new experience for myself but I’m looking forward to the challenge.

I’m feeling excited for the 2015/16 season, mainly because I believe the league is wide open. Over the years the Welsh Alliance Division 1 have had teams who have dominated the division (Caernarfon, Denbigh, Holywell), but this season it’s all open in my opinion, everyone is capable of winning each other. It’s very hard to predict.

Skin, Kenny and Bins have been working hard behind the scenes to freshen up the squad, which is not the easiest job with so many clubs on the island. With the majority of last season squad signed, we are more than capable of challenging in this league.

Pre-season was tough, certainly doesn’t get any easier, but the lads have been working hard and the fitness is showing. 5 friendlies altogether, some encouraging displays against stubborn opposition. I was very proud of the lads in our last friendly against a very good Caernarfon Town side, who I’m sure will be challenging at the top of the Huws Grey Alliance this season, the attitude/character the lads showed was outstanding especially with several key players missing. I’m confident with the same commitment showed at Caernarfon Town, 2015/16 will be a successful one for Gwalchmai Fc.

Target for the season, hopefully we can have a good cup run this season, Welsh Cup / FAW Trophy and finish in the top 5 would be a huge achievement for a small village.
