Gwalchmai 6-1 Meliden

Saturday we welcomed WA2 side Meliden to Maes Meurig on a great day for football with the playing surface in excellent condition yet again.

The game set off at a blistering pace, so much so that neither side managed to dictate the play for the first few minutes. It was from a hopefully ball down field by gk Paul Evans that Gwalchmai gained control of the tie as Gethin Davies pounced on some lax defending to calmly prod home, 1-0.

The goal filled us with confidence as we now began to zip the ball around and enjoy lengthy spells of possession. Allman passed to Geth Davies who was revelling in his new position, he chipped the ball over his man and turned playing in Chris Bennett who rounded the outrush gk to slot home from an angle, 2-0.

We weren't finished here as we continued to press and attack in droves. After some good intricate play we won a corner. Kieran Lewis stepped up and whipped the ball into the danger zone down the throat of the suspect visiting goalkeeper who didn't cope well with arial balls. Gav Jones gained the faintest of touches as the ball work its way into the back of the net, 3-0.

Our confidence was sky high by this stage and we were enjoying long spells dictating the play. We invited our full backs into the affair at every opportunity. It was through some great play down the right that we worked our way into the box, Allmans quick free kick found Bennett who did well he played a one two with Kieran before the ball was squared to Mark Griffiths to tap home into the empty net, 4-0.

Before the half was out there was just about time for us to complete our 45 minute demolition as yet again we created space working the channels. Kieran crossed pin point for Geth Davies to seal his second of the game and make it 5-0 at the break.

HT 5-0

It was always going to be hard to keep the first half momentum and increase our lead as we wished.
The visitors had pride at sake and made substitutions. In particular they introduced the no12 into midfield who was excellent throughout the half and added a much needed energy boost to the visitors. Despite this we remained in control, the visitors 9 went close on two occasions where Paul Evans saved well in the Gwalchmai goal. We then had changes go begin by Gerallt Jones, Scruff and Bennett.

We were made to wait for our 6th until the 70th minute as we won the ball on the half way line. Gethin was played in as he approached the box wide right, his pin point chip found Allman who at the second chance of asking hit high into the net, 6-0.

The visitors were rewarded for their increased second half efforts as John Jones was out muscled his man turned into the box before slotting home from the right, 6-1.

The game fizzled out from this point and became a little scrappy. We had sealed the victory early doors and the visitors hearts were broken.

Today we were professional and settled following the early breakthrough. The goals and football we played encouraged our confidence to grow. In particular Geth Davies made a huge impression upon the tie as he bagged himself 2 goals and 2 assists. Having said this it was a pretty solid performance.
