West Haddon 1st XI traveled to Wollaston for the opening NCL Division 3 fixture for the new 2013 season.
With Overseas summer signing Kurt Brown in their lineup and a youthful bowling attack, the Spartans were asked to take first use of the wicket and bowl first as the new rules from last season still encouraging sides to bat first when winning the toss, and Wollaston continued this trend and attempted to take the initiative and control the match.
Robson Kightley, Alex Churchhill-Coleman, Kurt Brown, James Higgs and Neil Durbin all bowling well as Wollaston completed their 50 overs on 208 for 7 with Kightley taking 3 for 36 in an impressive performance.
In response Kurt Brown 72 and Phil Perrymen 84 not out seeing West Haddon home on 209 for 5 after 44.3 overs, to record a well deserved opening day win.
