4-2 over Driffield

Driffield EI 2 (2) Hall Road Rangers Reserves 4 (2)

With two new signings on the day the reserves were after a much needed morale booster from today’s fixture.
Straight from the off the young team looked the more positive of the two teams. Three decent efforts within the first 10 minutes set the tempo.
Archie Brown finally found the target and net on 11 minutes with a sweet finish and gained his brace five minutes later after some poor defending let him in to lob the keeper from 25 yards. Well on top and playing some attractive football all seemed to good to be true and in the space of two minutes the home side had drawn level.
The first from a keeper and defender mix up for an easy finish and a lack lustre defensive headed clearance gave the Driffield side an opportunity to level which they did far too easily.
A proper game on. The home side now had a decent spell on controlled football and the only highlight for Rangers was a Brad Needham free kick which the keeper just managed to tip over, other than that it was backs to the wall till half time.
After the break it was the turn of the young guns to hold steady as Driffield took total control of the game. At the heart of defence Sam Thames and Omar Salam holding a solid line was a platform for them to get back into the game. With Tom Cracknell on at right back and brave enough to get the ball from the keeper and play, keeping the ball was key.
Simple football to Brown, fine cross for Needham to enter late into the box to finish well. The game now fully turned on its head and with complete control of the game Hall Road began to pass with quality. A Needham effort was pushed onto the post but with no one to follow up the danger was halted. Look and learn!!! Similar script but different result on 78 mins as a Brown effort was poorly dealt with by the keeper for Jacob Todd to fire in the rebound. Lesson learnt.
With a two goal advantage again the youthful side this time kept the ball well to the end of the game with a tired looking home side. 2-4 to the visitors and a much needed morale booster, especially with players to return, in time for the visit next Saturday of high flying AFC Walkington.
