Hall Road Rangers kept their 100% winning record going for the new season with a 3-2 away win over local rivals Winterton Rangers. Another brace from forward Scott Phillips helped Rangers secure all three points with Jamie Reeson netting his first league goal of the season.
Taking on a host of ex Hall Road Rangers players and playing staff at the West Street ground all was cordial before the game but once the whistle blew it was down to business.
Hall Road asserted their dominance from the start as Phillips got his first on 14 minutes heading home a pin point Chris Spinks cross to make it 1-0. With fast pacy passing and excellent ball retention the boys from Haworth Park soon made it 2-0 through Jamie Reeson who was fastest to pounce on a well saves Phillips shot.
Half time came and went and Ricardo’s boys again started on top with the lion’s share of possession and chances. Tom Bennett’s pin point cross found Scott Phillips in the 61st minute as the prolific goal scorer grabbed his second and Ranger’s third to make it 3-0.
Winterton to their credit fought back and got their first just a minute later to make it 3-1. A second deep into stoppage time with virtually the last kick of the game made it 3-2 despite what looked to be a blatant foul on Sam Belcher ended the game.
After the game Manager Dave Ricardo was delighted with the result “Today's performance and result were as equally pleasing.”
“Don't be fooled by the scoreline this was a far more convincing win against a Winterton side full of confidence.”
“Again Scott Phillips delivered with a brace however the all round effort from the team especially players such as Jake Vernon and James Piercy who worked so hard and selflessly for others was the main pleasing element.”
“ We still have a couple of gears to move up but we're making good progress.”
Rangers now sit joint top of the table with just goal difference between the three sides sitting on top of the pile. With a long away day to Eccleshill in the league cup on Wednesday for the Rangers boys Ricardo will be hoping for a good cup run to keep the momentum going. Kick off will be 7:45pm at the Mitton Group Stadium.
