Sunday was the last round of the Essex summer cup for 2023.
Halstead managed to field two teams and with results not always going our way, both squads still kept a positive attitude and played amazingly ?
Halstead Red had a good 2-1 record in the pool stages, but with points difference going against them they finished third out of four. Halstead White faired less well in their pool, losing two and wining just one but also finishing third.
Both teams made light work of their opposition in the knockout stages, setting up a final game against each other.
Halstead Red scored first before Halstead White drew level and then took the lead. With nearly the final play of the game, Halstead Red tied the score and with the ref offering to play a lung-bursting drop-off, the Halstead Captains agreed that a 2-2 draw was a fair reflection, meaning the teams tied for 5th place on the day.
There was a nail biting wait to see if Witham, who had finished third on the day, had gained enough points to overtake Halstead, but, by just one point, we had managed to hang on to third which is an amazing achievement, and something to be proud of☺️?
The final standings then were Lordswood first, retaining their title, followed by Harwich in second, Halstead in third and Witham in fourth.
Thank you to our amazing players for turning up and playing their hearts out every game, and to Stewart at Havering & Essex Touch for orginising the series and for Harwich & Dovercourt RUFC for hosting the final round!
Looking forward to next year already???
