After a hard fought first half with Templars leading by just five points,Templars fired into action in the second half to win 25-0
Templar’s 25 Westcliffe 0
In front of a large home crowd Halstead Templar’s played host to Westcliffe RFC.
The game started with Halstead in total control and throughout the first half Templar’s were encamped in the visitors half. The pressure
eventually took its toll when Cameron Ross chased down a kick from fly half Matt Blackwell to score his 5th try in three games.
Unfortunately for Templar’s the one sided pressure did not yield any more scores in that half thanks to a strong Westcliffe defence.
The second half started once again with Halstead in the ascendancy, immediately scoring their second try through Jamie Carroll.
From then on it was all Templar’s. The Halstead pack led by Andy Quinn more than matched the heavier Westcliffe eight and with the ability
to release quick ball by debutant scrum half Simon Wells and inspirational kicking from Blackwell, Templar’s racked up further tries by
Adam Messenger, Wells himself and Quinn.
Kelly Aspinall made a welcome return on the wing and was joined in his first appearance of the season by Connor Donald.
Templar’s man of the match was Matt Blackwell who always had Westcliffe on the back foot.
It was a magnificent display by the Halstead team who are now averaging over 4 tries per match and are so far unbeaten in the league this
year. So it was fitting that on the day that Templar’s unveiled the new home kit in front of the sponsors HBH Joinery, GL Profiles, CMW
and local dignitaries, Mayor of Halstead David Hume and keen supporter and town councillor Jackie Pell that the home team delivered the
goods !
Templar’s coach Barry Poulter unable to play himself through injury was jubilant in his sides latest victory and thanked the support of
the sponsors and VIP’s who had not only witnessed a fine win but had enjoyed a pre match lunch at the Bird in Hand.
Halstead’s next match is away to Ilford
