Young adults from Feltham YOI help build new ground feature

EVERYONE here at the Jezzards Beveree was delighted to see a real community effort around the ground recently.

Four young adults from Feltham Young Offenders’ Institution worked with club volunteers on a project to build a set of new double gates at the away supporters’ entrance, just beyond the main stand. Materials and mentoring were provided by Wickes.

Wickes staff were great at engaging the group and everyone was keen to take on this team challenge in which they were also able to recycle the old gates into replacement fencing.

Michelle Glassup, of Feltham YOI said: “For our boys to experience being able to volunteer alongside other volunteers made them feel like an equal member of the group.

“It allows them to achieve the feeling of giving back to the community, which every volunteer knows gives you an enormous sense of well-being and achievement. They were a credit to themselves and Feltham.”

We can certainly endorse that – and we have a great new feature around the ground to prove it!

Our thanks should also go to Richard Bryenton and Alastair Bruce from the Beavers Trust who made it all possible, along with kitman Bill Glassup who acted as liaison officer.

And that may not be the end of it! Our links with Feltham will allow us to have a young handyman at the ground for a day a week, while the club will be looking for funds from the National League Trust for materials.

Well done everyone!
