Froggatt and Moxam the Main men as Ambers get back to winning ways

Jon Froggatt and Aaron Moxam both grabbed two goals in a 5-1 win over Maltby Main ....

Mick Godber made just one change to the team narrowly beaten by Cleethorpes last time out, with Tom Claisse replacing the unavailable Steve Warne, whilst Main arrived with ex Ambers Flint, Watts and Carroll in their starting eleven.
The Ambers were quick out of the blocks and a searching first minute ball from Gareth Griffiths found Danny Buttle in space down the left flank. Not for the last time in the game, the winger beat his man and crossed but a defender blocked at the expense of a corner. Griffiths made a nuisance of himself at the back post and the ball fell invitingly for Jon Froggatt to knock home from close range to give The Ambers an early lead.
The lead should have been doubled on 8 minutes after some good play between Simon Harrison and Stuart Ludlam down the right released Harrison in the box and he was upended by a Main defender. Aaron Moxam stepped up and rather surprisingly, his effort was well saved by keeper Leese. However, with The Ambers in total command, the division’s top scorer did not have to wait long for his goal, claimed when his front post header from a Buttle corner flew in after 11 minutes.
Main were offering very little going forward and the game had the feel of a training exercise, such was the dominance of the home side who were picking off their opponents at will. Connor Smythe brought a full length save from Leese before Griffiths had a goal chalked off after the referee saw a foul on the keeper after another corner.
The visitors looked susceptible to conceding from every set piece and The Ambers continued to pile on the pressure as half time approached. Main succumbed again two minutes before the break, and once again it was a Buttle corner that did the damage, Froggatt once again being the beneficiary as he was allowed time and space to pick his spot and pass the ball into the corner of the net.
Maltby did look a bit more resilient at the re-start, deciding to go with an extra man at the back, but they only held out until the 59th minute when a Buttle free kick was headed home by an unchallenged Micky Harcourt. With the points sealed, Adam Ward and Alex Rippon came on and the pair were involved in a great move which saw Ward thwarted by a goal line clearance after he had lifted the ball over the keeper.
Moxam and Rippon both brought good stops from Leese in quick succession before the keeper produced an excellent save to deny a point blank Griffiths header from Ludlam’s cross. It wasn’t to be the centre backs day, as three minutes later he tapped in from Ward’s cross but was once again denied, this time by the linesman’s flag.
The visitors finally had their first shot on target seven minutes from time when sub Goodwin’s effort was pushed behind by Archie Sneath, and from the resultant corner, Wesley forced the ball home for Main.
Carroll then had a last minute effort saved by Sneath before a quick break down the other end saw Rippon play Moxam in, and the striker stroked home his second of the game and 30th of the season.
Once again, the burgeoning partnership being forged between Froggatt and Moxam was the cornerstone of a good solid performance by The Ambers who travel to Liversedge next Saturday.
