A young Handsworth side, fielding five of the current Under 19 squad, gave an impressive display in the firt game of the season in beating an experienced Wombwell Main and should really have scored more than the three that they did. Luke Broadbent opened his account in the first half, but dispite putting Main under pressure, the Ambers were unable to add to this in the first half. In what was their first meaningful foray, Main won a corner and Ryan Bent outjumped the home defence to equalise just before halftime. Meaning business in the second half, Luke Broadbent restored the home sides advantage and Lee Brunt gave breathing space for the Ambers with a superb shot from outside the penalty box. The Ambers really should have added to this scoreline but with some resolute defending by the visitors and finishing that needs to improve, the home side ran out the winners. I suppose after the turbulent time at the end of last season, this is a result to build upon and be in no doubt - The Ambers will be back!!!
