FA Trophy replay beckons

Although a draw was probably a fair result it was disappointing for Hanwell in that the equaliser came with just fifteen minutes to go in this, at times, feisty contest. Hanwell began strongly and, before the game was a minute old, a quick free kick saw Joel Jacob’s cross headed against the foot of the post by Gareth Chendlik. Seconds later another curling cross from Joel was nodded out by a defender. From the resultant corner the ball rebounded back to that man Joel again, who slipped it through to Tayshan Hayden-Smith. The midfielder played the ball low across the six yard box, where it was dispatched into the back of the net by Gareth. What a start! Town were one up and less than two minutes were on the clock.

The home side went straight up the other end Hugo Sobte was at full stretch to catch a swirling ‘cross-cum-shot' from Terrell Egbri, after which, the Hanwell custodian was forced into giving away a corner from a bouncing cross. Hanwell then went close twice, with both Harvey Killeen and Gareth having good chances blocked. Then it was Harlow's turn and another dangerous cross from Egbri was punched over the bar by Hugo. With both teams playing a number of long balls there continued to be quite a lot of action in and around both penalty areas.

After twenty minutes Tayshan had a shot well saved with Harry Rush's follow-up being blocked. At the other end Dwayne Duncan did really well to head away a threatening free kick before rising above everyone to head away the ensuing corner.

The end to end nature of the match continued and a skilful exchange of passes between Gareth and Gianni Crichlow disappointingly resulted in only a blocked cross. At the other end Dwayne was twice called upon to make vital clearances, from the first of which Syrus Gordon followed up with a shot that grazed the post.
The second half started slowly, but then, ten minutes in, Joel played a low free kick into the area that just required a touch from anyone, but it evaded everyone. Harvey then had a good chance, but his volley from Tayshan’s cross hit the ‘keeper. As in the first half, an attack by Hanwell was followed by one from Harlow, and Matt Rush forced a good save from Hugo. Then it was Harry’s turn for shot, followed by Egbri at the other end. With less than twenty minutes to go Harry and Harvey combined for the latter to find Gianni with a fine cross-field ball., but the resultant cross was eventually grabbed by Josh Bexon.

Two minutes later the towering Oliver Gnandi met a corner well and directed his header at the goal. A bit of a scramble developed, finishing with Ozzy Adeniji prodding the ball into the goal. With ten minutes to go Egbri's refusal to move more than a couple of yards away from a Hanwell free kick resulted in an ugly ruckus that the referee did well to calm down using just one yellow card. Dwayne then got his head to two free kicks, the second of which set up Andy O’Brien but his shot from close range was saved. Then it was Joel who created himself a chance, but his shot was saved at the near post.
With just four minutes to go Andy pulled back Adeniji as he headed into the area. To Hanwell's relief a free kick, right on the edge of the area was awarded, which Egbri hammered well over the bar. There was still time for Gianni to demonstrate a bit of magic on the touchline but his chip towards a waiting Rob Laney was well cleared by Miles Mitchell-Nelson. So it finished all square, and the teams will do battle again on Tuesday evening.
