Work has been ongoing through lockdown to make sure the club is in the best place for when the 2020/2021 season commences


The Committee thought it would be useful to let members know what has been happening at the Club since March due to the Covid 19 lock-down.

The RFU resolved the final league positions and published the leagues for the 2020/21 season. Midlands West 4 (South) saw Bromyard and Tenbury promoted; Kings Norton relegated plus Dunlop withdrawn, incoming are Bedworth, Upton on Severn, Chaddesley Corbett and Rugby Welsh to complete a 12 Club league for the 2020/21 season – whenever that is allowed to start!

Players/Members - Clubhouse and grounds locked-down since end of March. All services suspended where possible to ensure club sustainability. Members collect gym equipment for personal use at home. Covid-19 rules relaxed allowing “groups of 6” to gather. Milburn and Evans put together Tuesday night pre-season fitness sessions. Participation limited to those pre-booked, saw 24 attend rising to around 30 thereafter. New faces attracted to the Club. Age Grade Rugby training commenced in bubbles of no more than 6 split over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Wellesbourne Ladies resumed fitness sessions on Thursday nights.

M&J section held a virtual AGM. Outgoing Chairman gave his report, Officers were elected and Coaching/Support staff identified for each age group. Phil Sheepy elected as Chairman.

A virtual meeting of senior members held to catch up and gain an idea of their needs and wishes looking ahead.

Finances - Club applied for and secured a grant from Sport England. Stratford District Council administered the Government’s Leisure grant together with the rates exemption for 2020/21. The Club applied for and secured an interest free loan from the RFUs Covid-19 Loan. RFU gave a 6 month repayment holiday against the Club’s current loan. Taking these things together, the Committee has secured the Club’s financial position in the immediate short term"

Grounds/Pitches/Cricket Square – Playing surfaces have been aerated to reduce compaction. As we approach the Autumn, pre-season renovation works will be reviewed at that time. Volunteer - Richard Carr - maintained the cricket square in readiness for cricket restarting in the middle of July. Upright from 2nd team goalposts taken down, repaired off site and the goal re-erected. Overhanging trees lopped and three grain sized trailer loads of branches disposed off site. Reduced programme of mowing carried out in April May and June. Strimming carried out on several occasions. Weed killer applied on several occasions. Shed “creocoted”. Around 40 perished tyres collected and responsibly disposed of off site. Rabbit holes backfilled and seeded. Travellers in the area - additional security applied to Club entrance on 2 separate occasions.

Clubhouse - Walls have been washed down and showers jet washed. Floors and walls painted. Rotten skirting board removed and replaced. Damaged door handle to inside 2nd team changing room replaced. Beer lines cleaned through every 6 weeks as recommended. Condensation line from cellar refrigeration unit cleaned. Fire detection and alarm system serviced.

Ongoing – Repairs to Clubhouse roof. Repair lettering to Clubhouse. Service external wall clock. Repair potholed driveway. Service scrummage machines. Service stairlift. Continue strimming. Continue weed killing. Erect scaffolding/catch net on boundary. Set in place pedestrian rubber matting. Assist setting up/running Dog Agility event at the Club over August Bank Holiday week-end. Service/replace shower valves as necessary. Replace all and install additional emergency lights. Carry out PAT Testing. Install wall mounted alcohol sanitiser dispensers. Club AGM to be held. Service Burglar alarm. Backfill and seed rabbit holes.
