It was a great day for Rugby, with a brace of games at Waterloo Fields. With both the 1s and 2s having mixed results, and upsets in weather, everyone was up for the games ahead. Barkers are normally a tough side, and a good contest is always on the cards.
Harbury were so dedicated to the game that Tom Robb managed to injure himself warming up, ruling him out of the game.
From the first whistle Harb's showed great initiative, playing through the hands coupled with good tactical kicking to gain territory.
It quickly became apparent that if you give the ball to the quickest person on the field, in open space, he will score a try. This is exactly what happened, a silky ball flowing through the backs ended up in Mark Anderson’s hands, allowing him to run multiple circles around the opponents, resembling a stabbed rat. He eventually scored after 17 mins when he’d had enough of tormenting the opponents. His points converted by Richard Mazurek. A penalty by Barkers for being naughty meant a chance for Mazza to kick for goal, giving Harb’s another 3 points, 10 points after 25 mins. Ando went onto repeat this ‘try scoring’ 3 further times, 1 just before the break at 30 mins, with the remaining 2 tries in the second half, 60 mins and 70 mins respectively. A100% kicking record from Richard Mazurek’s crafted boot hammered home Harbury’s kicking opportunities to further their point’s advantage over the travelling Barkers side time and time again.
The tight lipped Harbury team kept a cool head when things didn’t seem to go there way, allowing Barkers side to fall in to that trap.
Overall this was a great contest, and a well deserved victory, with great play in the forwards and back.
Man of the Match is Mark Anderson
