The Haringey Rhinos entered Round 4 of the Junior Cup this weekend, welcoming visitors Lewes Ladies II's to Perth Road.
Both teams started fairly evenly to start but after hitting the 20 minute mark Lewes started to gather momentum from a string of penalties, scoring 4 tries in the first half.
The second half saw the Rhinos put in a more disciplined performance giving less opportunities for the visitors to capitalise on. The Rhinos made use of a penalty close to the tryline and sent it wide into the arms of Winger Fran Gamble to score the Rhinos only try for the day and converted her own to boot! Final score was 7-38 to Lewes.
Biggest Hit went to Shaunie Kiernan for a heavy tackle performance including a run of 4 tackles made on the bounce. Special mention to Molly McNamara for switching into Full Back midgame and serving as a solid second wall of defence.
Players Player went to Scrum Half Aliena Archer who made audible, crunching tackles on opposition of all sizes and scrappy on the ball from first to final whistle.
A tough result but Rhino Ladies can take solace in the fact that that this is the furthest the team has ever gotten in a Championship Cup to date; onwards and upwards for next seasons tournament!
