Haringey Rhino Ladies make it 2 for 2 against High Wycombe

High Wycombe Ladies met Haringey Rhinos Ladies at home to kick off 2017.

The Rhinos kicked off and chased the ball down the pitch immediately applying pressure to High Wycombe's defence. The Rhinos were able to hold off a strong High Wycombe team, particularly in the scrum, which opened up the space for birthday girl Jocelyn Davis to receive the ball and score her first try of the day. The forwards turned over an impressive number of balls, which allowed Aimee Foulkes to charge down the field, opening up further gaps in the High Wycombe defence for number 13 Cyan Koay to score her first try of the day. Another great passage of play from both the forwards and backs saw the ball make its way into the hands of fullback, Lily Barca, for her first try. The Rhinos defence was, however, tested and a missed penalty saw High Wycombe within metres of the try line but were denied by the Rhinos and the half time whistle.

The Rhinos went into the second half 15-0 and immediately fed the ball to the wing for Lily to score her second try. The Rhinos again held off a strong High Wycombe team, turning over balls and crashing through their defence, allowing player of the match, Jocelyn Davis, to charge through the defence and score yet another try converted by Kate Glynn. The Rhinos' dogged defending denied High Wycombe's attempt at a try in the second half and again the ball was fed out to Cy who was able to sprint for the try line to score her second try of the match.

Some great teamwork from the Rhinos by the forwards holding off a powerful High Wycombe team and creating space for the backs to score resulted in an impressive final score of 32-0 to Haringey. The Rhinos face Battersea Ironsides next week away.

Haringey Rhinos Ladies train on Tuesday and Thursday 7.30-9pm at the New Sports and River Centre, White Hart Ln, Wood Green N22 5QW. All ages and abilities welcome.
