GARY ABRAHAM
Sad news to report that former Club member Gary Abraham died suddenly on the evening of Tuesday 28th September at his home in Maidenhead. He was 87. His wife, Margaret, was with him at the time.
Born in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales in 1934 Gary was a proud Welshman and an ardent supporter of his national team.
He first joined the Club in 1952, rejoining in 1957/8 after serving in the army during the 1956 Suez Crisis.
From the late 1950s to the mid-1960s he became first-choice hooker for the 1st XV, being described by captain Alan Murton (1958-61) as 'being comfortable in the position, easy for the props to work with, fast on the strike and always looking for work in the loose'.
A great team player and clubman his attributes were not confined to the field of play. In the bar, after the match, he would take on the role of 'choirmaster', guiding the Harrow singers through their repertoire including such Welsh favourites as 'Cwm Rhonda' , 'Sospan Fach' and 'Calan Lan'.
In latter years he has often attended Club lunches to meet up with former teammates on the 1960s table to reminisce past times.
He will be sadly missed by many.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Margaret, and his family at this sad and difficult time.
