First things first… I’m a realist (that one was for the lads!!) and I would like to welcome you all to the under 15’s new season.

I am very pleased to see that we have picked up a few extra players this season and welcome all our new team members and their families to our squad.
Our first outing away to Finchley on Sunday 21st September was both interesting and frustrating. It was interesting as we could see the team trying out the new ideas given to them in training but frustrating as the referee did not let the game flow or gain momentum at all. Watching the game from the start, our boys were on fire and attacking strongly, our rucks were strong, our scrum was dominant and we won several balls against the head with some excellent front row work between Jack, Tommy, James, Michael and Cameron.
The coaches agreed to play 3 halves of 20 minutes each and I am pleased to say that our teams’ fitness has improved drastically, many thanks to Andy Nic’s 8 minute jogging torture at training!!
Finchley didn’t give us much room or space for back line running, but I am pleased to report that our backs have been working very hard at their passing, and it has improved tremendously. They have been working on some nifty cross running and calling and it was great to hear the voices calling for passing during the game.
Our second outing was at home against Tabbard on Sunday 28th September and it was a doomed game before it even started. We were down by 6 or 7 players, some injured, some ill and some away on tours or holidays.
The coaches tried to reshuffle the team as best they could, using many forwards to cover the missing backs so it was going to be a test for many players. This was only made worse by a serious injury in the first minute of the game when David was tackled into touch and he went over on his ankle and we have since found out that he actually suffered a break to his ankle. Many thanks to Liz and William for taking care of David and getting him to the hospital.
The injuries didn’t end there, Ash hurt his leg and Jan came off with an injury as well. Leaving only one recognised back on the field, Daniel. The game was stopped for a while, whilst we considered our options but in good sportsmanship style Tabbard loaned us 2 of their players so the game could continue.
So the power house forwards took control of the game as best they could, but it was tough to try and gather the speed required to take on the backs from Tabbard. It was a tough call but you made it through and you can hold your heads high boys, you faced adversity and showed it the door – so hats off to you for keeping the team spirit high and playing with all your heart and soul.
So it’s been a tough start for the team, with several injuries facing them now in the league that starts next weekend, but you’ve shown great courage and strength as a unit, keep it up and the world’s your oyster!!
