After a relaxing half term break, the under 15 team ventured off to Old Merchant Taylors for a friendly game to burst the cobwebs off their boots.

A fresh and blustery morning awaiting us at the opposition home ground. Harrow under 15’s had a brilliant turn out, the opposition were a little short , it was soon apparent that if we wanted a game, we needed volunteers to join OMT’s team.
I’m very pleased to report that 4 of our players didn't hesitate to offer their services, and with jersey’s switched inside out, David Aniebonam , Daniel McEvoy, Sam Clancy and Tommy “Ironman” Irons joined OMT’s for the game.
Both sides were equally matched for most of the first half. But with it being a friendly, it seemed our players forgot some of the basic rucking rules and kept entering the side of the ruck and giving the ball away unnecessarily. OMT’s were camped on our try line for what seemed like ages – our defensive work was strong, but our scrum was lacking the power it needed to hold off OMT’s when it counted and with a few missed tackles, OMT’s drew first blood and scored the first try. As much as we tried to move the ball our team just couldn't get the momentum going and unfortunately before the end of the first half, the home team scored again leaving them with a 14 – 0 lead at half time.
Not a bad score at half time, you might say… however, the game then changed to a 10 a side game, and Harrow took their volunteers back but left Daniel McEvoy to assist OMT’s as they had no scrumhalf. It was within the first minute of the 10 a side game that Callum dashed and darted his way through the OMT defence and scored our first try which was converted. The game plan changed for both teams and the field opened up to some fabulous running rugby and again we saw Callum grace the try line for his 2nd try. This try was not converted and gave the home team a 14-12 lead. But before long it became apparent that this 10 a side game seemed to suit OMT’s players a lot more and it wasn't too long before they found themselves under our posts for a try; the first of many to follow that saw the home team win the mix and match game by 40 – 12.
It was great to get out and see some rugby again on a Sunday –
Good luck to the team for their first league match this Sunday 07/03/2015 – I hope we can work on the basics and get a few simple things working to our favour!
