We went over to Ruislip for our first match of the season with a small squad of 14 and played two competitive games against a strong and numerous Ruislip squad. The boys put in a great deal of effort and considering Luke M picked up an injury which left us with the bare 13 against their squad of 22+ we held our own for long periods of play.
Our slow starts reared it's ugly head from last season and silly mistakes which will be avoided with more games under the boys belts, resulted in us going a couple of tries down early in both games. After good yardage gained by Harry and further work from Soham and Luke M, Stanley drove over for our only try of the 1st game which ended in a 4-1 defeat
The second game naturally saw the team tiring with the opposition able to make various changes at will and despite another strong drive over from Stanley for his and our 2nd try of the day, Ruislip ran out comfortable winners.
In summing up, Nick and Sachin told the boys that they were proud of them and Nick mentioned that we don't give out a player of the week as such now, but special mention should go to Varsh who playing at full back put in some incredible last ditch tackles.
As a parent watching, a couple of minutes towards the end of the 1st game summed up what is great about the boys spirit. Harry charged down a kick, then continued to battle through 3 Ruislip players to win the ball which then resulted in Soham and others gaining good territory. All the boys were lifted from that moment till the end of the game and the parents too!!!
Well done boys - on to next week and the Maidenhead festival
