Great morning of Training

The sun shone as we stepped out into Grove Fields . The coaches looking rather resplendent in their new Harrow RFC tracksuits.

We welcomed new players Robbie and Jerrell to the U11s.

Paul took the warm up and after the boot check we spoke about the RFU value of discipline and what it meant to the players.
It was onto the drills and back to basics with passing. The coaches had been doing their home work and the lesson plan looked like a quantum physics theory , however it worked well in practice with balls staying to hand. We covered tackling again and the clock struck eleven it was time to throw the newcomers into a baptism of fire with a full contact match blues v colours.

Pat and Benj were appointed respective captains.

It was Jamie S who got the first try. He took a pass on the right wing and ran back left against the drift to score in the corner. Kade then showed his blistering pace to take a loose ball down the right wing to cross the line. Kade then took a catch from the kick off and ran through the defence for his second. It was Captain Benj who put a stop to the rot by taking a pass from Jamie and touching down to draw the game. Benj then followed Kade’s example and went in for his second try .Jamie S followed suit by running in his second with a powerful run. Benj went over again having had one try disallowed for ‘ diving' by the referee. It was newcomer Robbie who showed some pace. He took the ball down the left flank and was strong enough to resist the defensive drive towards the touchline. He went over in the corner for his first ever try on debut. Congratulations Robbie the first of many for Harrow RFC.

Emma was carrying the crash ball well and tackling hard. It was the other newcomer who was impressing the coaches. Jerrell was carrying well, on one occasion taking six players to bring him down. However it was at the tackle he was excelling. In his first game of contact rugby he was stopping everything that ran at him, superb technique well done to Jerrell.

The game ended 5-3 . Discipline was excellent and as the theme of the day pleasing to the coaches.

Player of the day went to :

Robbie for good work in the scrum and scoring a try on his debut.

Jerrell for effort in powerful carrying and superb tackling.

Emma for hard work and concentration all session. Effort taking the ball into contact and technique at the tackle.

Next week we are at home .

Coaches note- It has come to my attention some referees are not allowing skins. To clarify skins are banned at over 18 only. Skins are allowed at U11.
