Yesterday's rugby performance at Old Verulamians was by far and away the best of the season! On a fairly cold and muddy pitch both Harrow and St Albans did some fun warm ups including slip sliding around in the mud that I'm sure pleased the Parents who had to wash the kit afterwards.
Reuben was appointed captain for the day and there was to be two matches of ten a side with rolling subs. The difference between this week and previous weeks was our tempo. The players fought for each other, tackled well and closed down the space. The attitude of the players exemplified by Harry was fantastic to watch and was infectious across the team. Highlights for us included Daniel making a couple of amazing driving runs and he scored a great try also. Alex made some brilliant tackles, Galloway was driving forward on every occasion and Guy and Tom made a try saving tackle in the corner. Jamie was inventive with his kicking whilst Mel, Milo and Ibrahim kept going and working hard for the team. We also saw some great wing play from Benj and Archie whilst Mark got involved at every opportunity. Even though Malcolm arrived a little late he had a great impact on the game as always.
Both games were narrow losses but there was a real sense of pride across the team. We learnt that every player has a role in the team and the game is not about individuals.
We look forward to more of the same and improving on our skills over the coming weeks.
