After last weeks fantastic opening session to celebrate the start of Harrow RFC 125th anniversary year, we were able to get down to some work and really blow the summer cobwebs away. We were down in numbers but there was still enough to get back on tackle bags, passing drills and some contact rugby to liven the players up.
We broke the session down into two key parts. An hour of drills and an hour of rugby, both with contact and tough rugby.
The tackling started tame but soon picked up pace and intensity. After a solid 3 minutes on the tackle bags for all players, there were tired limbs and painful lungs, but we didn't stop and went straight into a game of touch. On a small pitch with little space, the drill was designed to test passing and communication skills. Again it started slowly, with some dropped passes but quickly developed into smooth passing and much improved communication.
Through the drills and games there were a number of candidates for player of the week. However for pure consistency and commitment throughout the session, the player of the week award went to Oliver Rose.
Next week we will be focussing on tackling and encouraging a more aggressive playing style. It is an area of the game that will be important to develop to ensure e do not get pushed off the ball at the breakdown as well as in open play.
See you all next week.
