A bit of competition at Teddington!

On one of the nicest Sunday mornings in a good while, we journeyed down to Teddington for this year’s Middlesex Festival. With fantastic organisation, we were welcomed superbly by Teddington and all of their supporting team. They delivered an outstanding festival, which ran to time and provided the players every opportunity to enjoy rugby in a safe, competitive and fun environment.

Thank you Teddington!

After registration and a slick warm up, we divided the Harrow players into two teams and got going with the matches. We rotated through the pitches nearest the clubhouse and each team played four games: Harrow A played Teddington, Ealing, Pinner and Rosslyn Park; Harrow B played Teddington, Pinner, Ealing and Bank of England.

Each of the opposition teams offered a unique challenge and we were faced with a wide range of differing techniques and approaches to the game. Harrow’s skills and energy reserves were thoroughly tested and we all learned some valuable lessons about tag rugby. The play was often free flowing and the players’ determination was clear for all to see. Congratulations to all the players for such a high tempo performance and consistent effort across all the matches.

Our Harrow team spirit was the most evident characteristic of our play and every single player was involved throughout. We scored tries with over 20 phases of play, defended stoically in every game, used our evasion skills to great effect, passed with fluidity and did it all with big smiles. We rose to the challenge when teams got physical but played fair, we matched the quick teams with electric pace and we played with real confidence. Well done everyone.

A massive thank you goes to all the parents for making the trip, sorting out the gazebo, feeding all of us, getting drinks, cheering on the players and being outstanding ambassadors for Harrow RFC. Overall it was a fantastic festival where we did ourselves proud and I am really looking forward to next week, where I hope to see you all again.
