JESSE SMITH STEPS DOWN

JESSE SMITH STEPS DOWN

James Clouting21 Jul 2022 - 07:53

The club are sad to announce that Jesse Smith has decided to step down as Assistant Manager after seven and a half years.

'I’m so proud to have been a part of the management group'
- Jesse Smith

Jesse joined the club with Steve Baker in January 2015 and has been involved in nearly 450 games. He’s played a key role in maintaining the club at step 3, winning two Cups, a further final at Griffin Park and reaching the FA Cup 1st round twice.

Manager Steve Baker paid tribute to a close friend, as well as his right hand man in the dugout.

' To say I’m gutted would be an understatement. Jesse has been my assistant for 10 years now and the decision was completely out of the blue. Unfortunately his personal commitments away from the club have changed and he feels with the travelling involved he can’t give it 100%'.

'I can try to find solutions for most things but not the league we’re in travel wise. He’s been a massive part of everything we’ve achieved and I couldn’t have done it without him. Not only are we losing an unbelievable coach and person, he’s also one of my best friends.
The players love him and he’s one of the funniest people you could meet. On behalf of myself, the staff, the players and the club I would like to thank him for everything and wish him all the best in his next adventure. Good luck my friend and little legend'.

Jesse also looked back upon his time at Boro with pride and fond memories.

'To everyone at Harrow Borough FC, this isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you soon. I really want to say a massive massive thank you to everybody associated with this fantastic football club'.

'I’ve had some highs and lows over the last 7 years. Obviously the FA Cup games at Northampton and Portsmouth are at the top of that list, but the time has come for me to move on. It’s the most difficult decision I’ve ever made during my whole football career but I feel it’s the best choice concerning myself and my family going forward'.

'I’m so proud to have been a part of the management group and a big big thank you must go to Steve for giving me the opportunity to come to 'The Boro'. We’ve had great times, great memories and made great friends and I’ll try my best to not be a stranger and get to watch a few games when I can. From Peter Rogers down to all the bar staff that have welcomed me with open arms from day one, thank you from the bottom of my heart'.

'I’ve also got to say a special thanks to my travel partner over the years, ”Wilko” (Darron Wilkinson) for car sharing and great laughter on every trip, love you mate'.

'Sorry to the players that I shouted at (not!) and to The Boro faithful supporters for putting up with me and I appreciate every time you made those long trips. You deserve success for all your efforts and I hope I haven’t let you down over the years'.

'To Peter Rogers and all of the committee and back room staff, I give you a huge huge pat on the back and a massive round of applause for all your work and time to keep the club going. Hopefully I’ll be allowed back in to visit again soon!'

The first team staff will now be restructured to Darron Wilkinson (Assistant Manager), Marc Charles-Smith (First Team Coach) and Bryon Walton (Head of Recruitment).
