Season 23 1955/56, the arrival of Tom Loftus-Tottenham as manager.

1955/56

Our new manager was Tom Loftus-Tottenham, he was previously a youth coach at Leyton Orient.
The Spartan League reverted to just one division that season, Harrow made an impressive start with a 7-2 win over Wolverton on the opening day. Then in the second game of the season won an eleven goal thriller as Letchworth were beaten 6-5, which should have been a warning of the defensive frailty. An impressive 75 league goals were scored, but the 71 conceded left the side in mid table.
In the F.A.Cup a home 3-3 draw with Uxbridge set up a replay at the Honeycroft which Harrow won 2-1, Cyril Ward and George Case scoring. This set up a home match with Wealdstone that attracted an attendance of 2,530 paying then record gate receipts of £123. Our Athenian League neighbours proved too strong, winning 7-0. In the Amateur Cup a trip to the White Lion ground to play Edgware ended in defeat, Tony Zubiena scored twice in a 6-2 defeat. A 5-1 victory in the Middlesex Senior Cup over Civil Service was followed by a 2-1 defeat to Tufnell Park, who had already knocked Harrow out of the London Senior Cup by the same score (aet).
Tony Zubiena was top scorer with 19 goals, followed by Ken Aldridge on 14.
In November an Arsenal X1 had visited Earlsmead for a friendly, Case and Lees scored in a 2-2 draw.
The Rayners Lane Supporters Club Trophy was won (photo in Gallery) with a 1-0 win at Lucas Avenue, Fred Peake scoring the goal.
The reserves managed by V. Hamilton finished 4th in the League and won the Middlesex Intermediate Cup for the first time.
At the end of the season the club applied to join the Athenian League and the Corinthian League but our applications were rejected.
