One moment of individual quality from Wimborne Town’s Aiden Shepherd was enough to see off a spirited, second half display from Harrow Borough at The Rogers Family Stadium.

16 minutes from time, The Magpies’ number 14 inflicted defeat on the home side, he was allowed to turn from 25 yards out and arrowed a shot past Boro goalkeeper Hafed Al-Droubi.

In what can only be described as a tense first half, the away side create one or two flashy moments, both coming from Curtis Young, who caused the home side all sorts of problems with his direct running, went close on two occasions but forced excellent saves from Al-Droubi.

With Harrow Borough struggling to create any real decent openings in what was a tough first half, and as the weather worsened, their football improved.

Steve Baker’s side imposed themselves on the away side, and were looking extremely dangerous, pinning Matty Holmes’ side back in what was a tough 20-minute spell for the away side.

Josh Andrews central to all of Harrow’s good play, flashed a delightful ball from the right hand side across the face of goal only for Marc Charles-Smith to blaze over from 11-yards out at the back post.

Once again, sustained pressure from Harrow Borough saw goalkeeper Cameron Plain pull off an outstanding save, denying George Moore who ghosted in at the back post unmarked.

Just minutes later, and the home side were made to rue not taking their chances their play deserved. Having entered the field of play just minutes earlier, Shepherd played a one-two with teammate Luke Burbidge and fired home. An inspired substitution by Holmes.

Despite this goal, The Borough kept pushing for that elusive equaliser and came within inches of snatching a point their display deserved.

Harrow Borough’s Lewis Cole redirected a ball across the face of goal after more good work from Thomas Scott down the left hand side, it was to no avail though as none of the two Boro substitutes could connect with the enticing ball that was drilled across.

Baker’s side will feel hard done by, considering their much improved second half display didn’t have anything to show for. It’s a defeat that sees Wimborne Town leapfrog Baker’s side into 10th and succumbed Harrow Borough to only one win in six games.
