Men's Head Coach Andy Wray has stepped down after over a decade in the role following the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign.

By his side throughout his tenure has been Andrew Small, as 1st XV Captain then latterly as coach and right hand man.

Together they have led the 1st XV to promotion twice in 2015/16 and 2021/22, a Pyman Cup victory in 2019 and guided the team to its best league position for 20 years in 2022/23.

They also navigated the squad through a tricky period following COVID as we sought to re-engage players with the game after the lengthy lay off.

More recently was the Durham Intermediate Cup final win against Hartlepool Rovers a fortnight ago which saw us lift the trophy for the first time in our history.

A County Cup was something that had eluded us for so long and fittingly that win provided the perfect finale to this successful chapter.

At the outset it is the hope of any coach to leave the team in a better place than they found it and they have certainly achieved that, and then some.

Luckily for us they won't be going far and will continue to develop future generations of senior players at the club in their coaching roles with next season's Under 16 and Under 7 age grade sides.

We're sure that they will remain close by to offer guidance and support for the incoming coaching team that will take us forward. Hopefully we will see Smalley back on the pitch before long too.

On behalf of everyone at Hartlepool Rugby Club we would like to offer our thanks and gratitude to Andy and Andrew.

They have overseen a period of great progress and success in our history, and we are extremely grateful for all of their hard work, commitment and dedication to coaching the men's senior squad.

We wouldn't be in the position we find ourselves in as a club today without them.
